What to wear, head to toe
Each piece names the standard it has to carry. Products that don’t carry it are left out, even when the name sounds right.

Electrically insulating gloves
IEC 60903The one piece that touches the live part.
Pick the class for your voltage: class 00 up to 500 V, class 0 up to 1,000 V, class 1 up to 7,500 V. Check them for damage before every use.

Two mistakes we see often
Not the same thing
A welding face shield is not arc rated
It filters the light of a weld. It is not tested against the heat of an electrical arc. Look for an arc rating in cal/cm².
The opposite job
ESD shoes do not protect from shock
Anti-static shoes let charge flow to the ground. For live work you need electrical hazard (EH) shoes, which block it.

Questions
Which insulating gloves for 380 V?
Class 0, rated up to 1,000 V AC under IEC 60903. Class 00 stops at 500 V, which leaves little margin on a 380 V supply.
Do I need arc-rated clothing for panel work?
If you switch, rack or open live panels, yes. Its arc rating in cal/cm² has to be at least the energy your risk assessment gives for that panel.
How do I check insulating gloves before use?
Look for cuts, cracks and swelling, then roll the cuff to trap air and squeeze: any leak means the glove is out of use. IEC 60903 also calls for a periodic electrical re-test.
Are ESD shoes safe for electricians?
No. ESD shoes are made to conduct static away. Electricians need electrical hazard (EH) shoes, which insulate.
